Fremont, Nebraska

Fremont is the county seat of Dodge County in eastern Nebraska. The Census Bureau counted 27,602 people here in 2023. The city sits along the Platte River, about 35 miles northwest of Omaha and 50 miles northeast of Lincoln. It lies on the river plain between the Platte and Elkhorn rivers.

Settlers laid out the town in 1856, expecting a railroad to come. They named it for the explorer John C. Fremont. The Union Pacific reached the town in December 1865, and two more rail lines followed within four years. The Mormon Trail also ran along the north bank of the Platte nearby. Trains and trucks still shape how this town moves. The town was incorporated in 1871, about six years after the Union Pacific reached town. Today the Dodge County Courthouse and the Louis E. May Historical Museum remind residents of that past. The museum sits in a Victorian house built in 1874. The city also keeps 21 parks covering over 400 acres. Families also enjoy the Splash Station water park and the Fremont Golf Club, finished in 1930.

Three U.S. highways meet here: US 30, US 77 and US 275. A bypass carries part of that traffic around the city. Hormel Foods, Fremont Health Medical Center and the public schools have been among the largest employers, so many families drive to work and school every day. Midland University and a Metropolitan Community College campus add students to the mix.

Fremont also draws people for fun. Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area has about twenty man-made lakes along the Platte, covering nearly 700 acres. The historic downtown has antique stores and the Love-Larson Opera House. All of these visitors share the same roads as the people who live here. When a crash happens, it can touch many families in a town this size.

Events in Fremont

Fremont fills with visitors for these four local events. More cars, more walkers and more tired drivers on the road mean more risk for everyone.

John C. Fremont Days

This citywide festival began in 1987 and runs three days. Families come for the historical parade, reenactments, a balloon glow, a rodeo, kids activities and a car cruise on Main Street. Opening ceremonies feature a concert, and food stands fill John C. Fremont Park.

Fremont 4-H Expo

Young exhibitors from Dodge County and eight nearby counties bring their projects to Christensen Field. The expo is a 4-H and FFA event run by the Fremont 4-H Expo Board and Nebraska Extension. Parents, grandparents and livestock trailers arrive from across eastern Nebraska.

Dodge County Fair

The county fair runs through Nebraska Extension and the Dodge County 4-H program. Local youth enter animals, photography, baking and other exhibits. Families from around the county come to see the results, and many drive in on rural roads to get there.

Christmas Walk

Downtown Fremont hosts this annual holiday event in its creative district. Neighbors stroll the historic blocks for lights, music and seasonal treats. Winter nights bring early darkness, slick pavement and many pedestrians crossing streets, so drivers need extra care near the shops.

How Demerath Law Office can help you in Fremont, Nebraska

If you lost a family member in a crash in Fremont, Nebraska, you may feel buried by tasks. I want to take that weight off you. I have practiced for over 50 years, and my work is motor vehicle accidents and wrongful death claims. I have recovered more than $50 million for Nebraska clients.

I handle your case by phone. You do not need to drive to Omaha, find parking or sit in a waiting room. I can talk with you from your kitchen table, at a time that works for your family. I will ask what happened, listen to your questions, and tell you what I think honestly.

Many Fremont crashes involve US 30, US 77 or US 275, where trucks, commuters and farm traffic share the road. I will gather the crash report, the medical records and the insurance information. I will deal with the adjusters so you do not have to take their calls. Do not sign anything from an insurance company yet. Send it to me first, and I will review it with you.

You pay nothing up front. I work on a contingency fee, which means you owe me nothing unless I win your case. The first consultation is free.

A fatal crash raises hard questions. Who pays for the funeral? What if the other driver had little insurance? I will answer these for your situation after I hear the facts. I do not rush families, and I do not promise results I cannot know.

Time matters. Nebraska law generally allows two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim. Please do not wait until the deadline is close. Evidence fades, and witnesses move away.

Admission to the Nebraska State Bar, the federal district court, the 8th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court is part of my record. I am also a veteran and a Nebraska farmer, so I understand rural life. Call me at 402-677-5656 and tell me about your loss.

Fatal car accidents I handle in Fremont

Every fatal crash is different, and the cause often shapes the claim. Here are eight kinds I see, with what Fremont families should know.

Truck crash

Semis and meat plant trucks move through Fremont on US 30, US 77 and US 275. A loaded truck needs a long distance to stop. If a trucker or a trucking company was at fault, I look at logs, maintenance and insurance early.

Motorcycle crash

Summer draws riders to Fremont Lakes and the highways around Dodge County. Drivers often say they did not see the motorcycle. That excuse does not end a claim. A family can still seek answers and fair compensation after a rider dies.

Drunk driver crash

Festival weekends and fair season bring crowds and late nights to the Fremont area. A driver who chose to drink and drive can be held responsible. Sometimes the person or business that served the alcohol matters too. I review every angle.

Head-on collision

On two-lane county roads outside Fremont, one drifting driver can cross the center line in seconds. These crashes are often deadly. Tired drivers and distracted drivers cause many of them. Police reports and phone records can show what really happened.

Intersection crash

Where US 30, US 77 and US 275 meet city streets, drivers turn, merge and run yellow lights. Fault can be argued by both sides. I collect witness names and any camera video quickly, before it is erased.

Rear-end collision

Traffic slows near the Fremont bypass and downtown stoplights, and a distracted driver may not see it. A rear-end hit can be fatal at highway speed. A family should keep every medical bill and ask me before talking to an adjuster.

Pedestrian or bicycle strike

Downtown Fremont draws walkers to shops, the library and community events, and students walk near Midland University. Dark winter evenings make people hard to see. A driver who fails to yield can owe a family for the loss.

Single-vehicle or rollover crash

Gravel roads, soft shoulders and farm field entrances near Fremont can send a vehicle into a ditch. A rollover may look like no one's fault. A bad road, a defective part or a second driver can change that.
